Research Description: 

Fundamental understanding of microstructure evolution in inorganic materials during processing and subsequent service, and the application of this understanding to the design of monolithic, composite, coating and thin film material systems. Current research interests include advanced thermal and environmental barrier coatings with emphasis on the mechanisms related to the degradation by molten silicates, synthesis of robust matrices for ceramic matrix composites, hypersonic materials, and high temperature alloys for extreme environments, notably including multi-principal element alloys.
