Materials Department Windows Security Guidlines
- Protect every account on a Windows system with a good (cryptic) password. Especially the Administrator account.
- Make sure all Windows shares are password protected.
- Run personal firewall software. I recommend ZoneAlarm which can be downloaded for free from:There are other good ones out there as well.
- Don't open bogus looking email attachments and have virus software such as Norton Anti-Virus installed on your system. Make sure that you setup NAV to scan your system at least weekly and run live update often to update the virus definitions. The campus has a site license for NAV:
- Ensure that Window Update is routinely downloading/installing Windows security updates.
