Hypersonic Participants
The team is led by Evans (materials and structures) with three collaborators at UCSB: Zok (structural materials), McMeeking (solid mechanics) and Levi (manufacturing) with experience in the design, manufacturing and analysis of CMCs, multi-functional structures and thermal barrier systems.  Wadley (materials physics, UVA) provides expertise in the manufacturing, analysis of thermal protection systems and actively cooled structures. He also provides the expertise to conduct first principles calculations of thermal conductivity, ablation and oxidation and perform the combinatorial synthesis. Hutchinson (solid mechanics and structures, Harvard/UCSB) provides expertise in modeling relationships between microstructure, properties and performance. He now has a joint affiliation with Harvard and UCSB. Pollock (high temperature alloys, Michigan) has led research activities on the implementation of intermetallics and refractory alloys and in the application of modeling protocols for the accelerated introduction of high temperature materials. Miles (aero-thermo-chemistry, Princeton) brings expertise in predicting thermo-structural loads, in magneto-gas-dynamics and vehicle design optimization
